When to start

I am just starting to learn to fish for Kokanee and am wondering when the best time to START targeting the fish is. Is April or May too early?

I'm in southern Idaho and catch them in April. Weather will decide when I start fishing for them.

I catch them through the ice all winter and then I start trolling as soon as I can get on the water. The fishing seems to improve as the water warms and gets really good when it hits the mid 50s here (surface temp).
