Had a great trip
Thanks to everyone for the great information. This forum is great for those of us who don't get to come out very often and want to make the most of the trip. Very nice of you to share the info.
We were there 6/12-6/14, fished all around Buckboard, North and South, slept in the boat and fished all day, every day. The wind did come up, as advertised but not enough to blow us off the lake like it did in May last year. Fishing was slow but steady. It took us all three days but there were five of us and we pretty much limited out. Kokanee were nice, in the 18-22 inch range, healthy, tasty. Wanted to catch a good size laker, but couldn't really even find pups. I think we caught two, and of course the usual complement of scrappy flaming gorge rainbows. They were so firm that we even kept some of them. If I could figure out the forum's system I would post a couple photos.
In case anybody cares to know our report: couldn't really find schools of fish, more random strikes, at all depths from like 10-40 feet. The action seemed to be quickest right in the middle of the bay to just North and West of the island. We caught them on hoochies, assassins, wedding rings; pink, white, chartreuse. No rhyme nor reason, just random. Then again, maybe I just don't know what I'm doing. Let me rephrase that: For sure I don't know what I'm doing, and 3 straight days didn't really seem to provide a lot of education. So, maybe the fishing was spotty, or maybe I'm a slow learner. In any case, we caught some fish, and had fun.
By the way, has anyone but me noticed that the lady at Buckboard Marina is about as ornery as they come? Wow, I'm a pretty amiable, happy go lucky guy but she was pushing my buttons. Somebody needs to get that woman some flowers or something!
