I am about to wire up my Downriggers. I am thinking about mounting a Blade Fuse Block and plugging in to it. I know that some folks go directly to the battery. Whats your opinion?movie89586

Mine are wired directly to the battery, as they were when I purchased the boat. I have the 10A inline fuses for protection.

I think when I get my next boat I will wire them into a fuse block and route them a little better.

When I bought my boat, there was a complete birds nest on the battery from all the accessories going to the battery. Not to mention, I hate inline fuses. So I installed a fuse block.

I got mine at a local marine dealer and it costs $30 for the block. I believe I've also seen the same one listed in West Marine catalog. BTW, you'll want to buy marine grade wiring versus standard automotive or home wiring.

That's the way to do it IMO SuperD and don't skimp on undersize wiring and cable tie and protect your wiring with tubing covers. Fortunately they did all this for me at Boutlon Powerboats and they did an excellent job installing all my electronics and such.

Wireing for down riggers

I have four downriggers so I wired two on each side to an off and on perko switch. I have one inline reset breaker between each battery and the perko switches. I got all of the parts at West Marine.
Seems to work good.
