Went today for a few hours at Nantahala. Caught 3 nice Kokes including my personal best to date. It was a male with a lot of attitude. Came in just a hair under 20" and weight approx.2 3/4 lbs.

Great fish!
It seems early to already be getting the spawning phase look. He must have been eager for the ladies.101chromefish101

I will look for you on Saturday. I have a white 14' Carolina skiff DLX blue bimini top. Cell phones still don't work up here. We are mist of a major power failure up here. Running on generator. Do you want the koke heads? I can still hold them if you don,t have a cooler. All 3 kokes were caught at about 35'.What time do you usually arrive?

Ron

Glad you are still with us. Yeah my wife makes me put that shirt on and put in my false teeth or she won't take a picture. She does not want me to look like an old troll. How's Jocasee these days?

We are shooting for being there around 800 or 830 .For sure let me get your heads ,I've got a big boat cooler so should be good to go .I'll be working in Canton Monday so I may try to drop them off to Powell then. I have some new dodgers and spinners to try,so I'm thinking of running one rod with new gear and switching often. We'll see how that goes.I can't tell how much I'm looking forward to my first koke of 2011. See you Saturday. thumbsup

Ron Jocassee has been realy good for me this year. I have had 4-4#/2-5# and 1-6.25. All were browns and many have come on Kokanee lures. Wish I could go Saturday with you guys . Maybe next time.H

Glad to hear you doing well at Jocasee. Wish NC had some trophy trout lakes. Those are some big trout. Meet with troll Monkey today. He is probably catching a kokanee as I type. I got one. A nice 18" male. They seem to be running about 2" larger this year. These fish should be in the 20"+ range by the end of August prior to the spawning run. Took a picture for you in my other Wally world fishing shirt.laugh hyst

Give my congradulations to Alex. Did you guys get any more? Any schoolies?
Funny I hooked the one I caught about 5 minutes after I turned left out of the cove. Only hit I had all day. Wind picked up and the sky got ugly. Headed back home around 11:30 to do the weekly shopping and trip to recycling. I will probably get out once or twice before I have to return to FL this weekend to suffer the heat, humidity and my wife's family reunion. Be back after the 4th as this place goes crazy with fireworks and gunshots all night that weekend(they really echo in that lake basin). Pleasure meeting and talking to you and Alex. Hoping to meet up with you soon with another bag of heads.

Ron

New Best

Has anyone caught any smaller kokes from Nantahala this year? Seems all the kokes caught are 18+" this year. I caught only one small koke this year. Here is a picture of my latest caught blind(no fish/depth finder). It was 20" and 3+lbs.

Awesome

Wow Ron ,that is a nice one I haven't broke 20" yet. Are you getting many hits and how deep are they running now? We got some 70'-75' a couple of years back , just curious if the heat had driven them down. I had a July trip in mind but it didn't work out.We are planning a trip Sat Aug 6 and at least one more trip mid-Aug. I'll let you know which days we'll be out if you have heads to unload. 101chromefish101 Take care Mark
