2013-2016 Idaho Kokanee Fishing Reports Quick Links

Yesterday I fished from Brown's Gulch to the Bowl. Nothing. Not a bite. The water was more turbid than usual for this time of year. Last year in the same area I boated (didn't keep) 22 kokanee over two days, Aug. 20 and 21. Thoughts?

    Down Rigger releases

There's a Black's release that looks very similar to the Chamberlain at about half the cost. How do the two releases compare? I just got a boat with downriggers already mounted and am interested in learning to use them.

    E-Chip Trout Killers

One year the purple ones worked very well on Lucky Peak. I haven't tried them often since then.

    Kokanee Flies

After making a few, I certainly agree they are easier to tie on a larger tube. Now if they will catch fish as well as the ones I've been using, I'll be a happy camper. I get to try them out on Wednesday and Thursday.

    Kokanee Flies

Ok, I'll admit to a lack of understanding. What is the advantage of tying these on a tube as opposed to tying them directly on the hook as most flies are tied? Can someone enlighten me? I found some coffee stirrers and am tying some, but I don't see why they'll be better than just tying to a...

Kokanee and a bit of worm

I know kokanee aren't usually meat eaters. However, I've been catching kokanee on Cascade with a three bladed troll and a small spinner tipped with a bit of worm. Has anyone else gotten kokanee on a worm? If so, where? Physion

2013-2016 Idaho Kokanee Fishing Reports Quick Links

I fished from about 10 to 3 yesterday (Monday) out of Spring Shores. I didn't get much until after noon. Finally got a limit. I had enough other hits to have gotten a limit much sooner, but they weren't wanting to stay on and play. I long lined with a weight, 3 bladed troll, a snubber and a...

2013-2016 Idaho Kokanee Fishing Reports Quick Links

I got 5 on Monday and 2 on Tuesday. A fish here and a fish there. No strong pattern on place or depth.

    Payette and Little Payette Kokes

I think most of the kokanee feed the mackinaw (lake trout) in Payette Lake. A number of years ago I did fairly well on the lake. I still try a couple of days a summer for old times' sake, but have had little success. June and early July were the preferred times when I was able to find them.

    2014 Crescent Lake Fishing Reports

I live in Idaho and don't fish in Oregon very much. I'll be visiting my brother at Crescent Lake the first week of August. He promises some fishing time. Any suggestions you'd care to pass along? A pm is fine if you don't want to share with the lurkers. Physion

2013-2016 Idaho Kokanee Fishing Reports Quick Links

My wife and I fished from about 1:00 to 6:00 today from Spring Shores to Birch Creek. We boated 9 kokanee and 1 rainbow. Not a bad outing this early in the year.

How long do you use corn after openning the can?

I use some of the old plastic 35mm film canisters. I open a can of corn, fill the plastic canisters about 3/4 full, add a bit of the corn juice to help prevent freezer burn, and put them in the freezer. When I add scent, I let the container sit out for a while so the corn can absorb it, and...

    Idaho Kokanee Tournament

Is the derby on June 21 bass or kokanee?

    Long lining Kokanee rod

I do not have a downrigger. I longline with an Eagle Claw rod that is no longer made. (I can give you the number if you want to search on e-bay.) I usually fish 100 feet of line with up to 3 ounces of weight. The 3 ounces gets my troll down to about 30 feet deep. I use a small three bladed...

    2013 Lucky Peak Fishing Thread

Most of the kokanee were in shallow, 10' of water? Interesting, and a bit unusual. How was the wind? The forecast kept me home yesterday. Thanks for the report. Maybe next week for me.

    2013 Lucky Peak Fishing Thread

I got 6 on Wednesday and 4 yesterday. It was slow both days for me. I'm wondering if most of them have moved towards the lower end.

Where to go in August for Kok's

I've just had two good days on Lucky Peak. The fish are bright silver, about 12 inches. They are next year's spawners.

    2013 Arrowrock Fishing Thread

Any big ones in the 30-40 foot depth range? According to the fish and game website, no chinook have been planted in either Lucky Peak or Arrowrock.

I've been off the water for a month. How is the fishing on Arrowrock recently? Have they really gone deep?

    2013 Lucky Peak Fishing Thread

I boated a lot of fish on Friday, May 31, and kept 6. I caught most of them between the ramp and the opposite side. Five were about 15 inches and the others were 11 to 12 inches. All were caught about 25 feet down. Fish and Game people at the check station said others had not done so well...
