Gp 6-16-12

We caught 5 and lost 2 at the back of the boat. Fished from 0730 - 1500. The water was perfect until about 0930. From that point on we faught the wind the rest of the day. My boat doesn't handle the wind that well. So we would fish down wind pick everything back up and drive up and start all over again. Caught all the fish on a sling blade and pink and clear Macks cha cha hoochy with corn soked in tuna oil at 45 feet. Later in the day we saw the fish at about 100 feet, but we couldn't keep the line on the scotty release at that depth. Speed was anywhere from .6 to 1.5 depending on the wind. We used spin-n-glows, weding rings, triple teesers, different color hoochies, Seps flashers, different color sling blades, cousin carl flashers. By the way, how can you tell if you have a fish when long lining with cousin carl flashers? The action on my rod was unreal. I got tired of looking at it, because I thought we had a fish on it. I have a photo, but haven't figured out how to post.

Green Peter 6/16

My two boys (21 & 23yrs) hit GP on Saturday as well. Fish seemed scattered. I didn't see schools they were more like pods. The pods we found were active and we had a good hook up rate when we pulled thru them. We were caught near the outhouse (very small) and from the dam to thistles creek. Marked more fish near the dam. We ended up with 7 in the smoker two released and a few long-line releases. I'm sure we would have caught more if we would have circled thru the pods but, we just kept going. We were enjoying the weather and BS. My oldest boy had not been fishing for over five years as he is a Marine and did a tour in AGN. Fish were caught on everything we put in the water. I use crappie tubes that I get from Walmart. We used white with sparkles, 8in behind a silver dodger, hot pink and white behind a hot pink slingblade, white with part on a black curly tail crappie jig on front, and a glow bead wedding ring type spinner.

This was also the boats first trip of the season (shake out run). As luck would have it as soon as we called it quits the engine started sputtering and died. We were halfway between Whitcomb and the island blowing towards the southeast. Could start the boat. Ask the boys to try and flag somebody down but, the only boats we saw were south of the island. I pulled the engine cover and had one of the boys crank it over. Seemed like it wasn't getting any spark. I pulled the coil wire and it looked like it had corroded. Pulled off the brass fitting and proceeded to drop it in the engine compartment never to be seen again. I stripped some of the coil wire and stuffed it into the coil and the boat started up. We motored back and it died as soon as we got on the trailer. LUCKY! Bottom line pleas keep an eye out for stranded boaters, it's our duty to assist. Thanks

I'm shocked such little numbers being caught at GP this time of year. Fished on the 2nd of June and landed 25.Going back soon maybe on the 22nd. Going to Odell for the week of July 4th. Does anyone have any reports on Odell?

Odell

Fished Odell on Sunday, it was very windy from the start so, didn't get alot of quality fishing in. Surface Temp. was around 52, lots of fish from 30 ft. on down. From what I heard, purple was the color that was working the best. Hope you do better that we did, I will probably try G.P. this weekend as well.

Pic for our trip to GP 6-16.

Helping others.

We have fished gp for over 10 years & have towed in 4 boats we all know that it is a common courtesy to render aid when you see some one in trouble the fact that no one saw you was bad luck but we do not need to be reminded to do the right thing when the time arises.
Thank your son for his service

I have pulled a couple boats off GP myself, and will continue to do so. However, I have had the Coast Guard caution me that once you attach the tow line to the disabled craft, you then become responsible and liable for anything that happens to the disabled craft.

They suggest render assistance, make sure everyone is safe, then call the Coast Guard or Sheriff's office for towing assistance.

Gp 6/27

Fished GP, Wed 27th for about 3 hrs. 10:30 till 3:00 (with lunch break).
No problems catching fish. Found small fish west of outhouse and larger near dam. Let all the small fish go. Used white crappie tube behind silver dodger on DR @ 40ft and a double bladed glow bead with red wedding ring type trolled behind pop gear and 1.25 oz. of weight approx 60 feet of line out. Consistent bite on both rigs with the edge going to the DR. Even the larger fish weighed less the the pop gear and weight. Equals no fun on that rig!

I went out Sunday and boated 13, gave up at 0945 being tired of dragging in smaller fish. GP is certainly not producing up to it's standards this year.

90% of what I caught, (lost one) were on a orange homemade wedding ring style spinner. Depths were from 30 to 75 feet, 1.5 seemed to be the best speed.

I think it will be Odell and Wickiup for me the remainder of this year, after all, I have heard that size matters.....whistlersmother

Went Sunday, 6/24, and 2 of us got 5 jigging (we don't troll). We went 7/5 and only got 3. All but one in the 12-13" size range. Showing lots of fish at 40 - 50', and we showed jigging right in the bunches, but couldn't get them to get wild on the bite. The shore across from Thistle did best for us; tried the dam floats for an hour; a few fish showed but no hits.
We are new at this jigging thing, and would appreciate any tips!

GP 7/15:

Took grandson & wife up. Lot's of trailers in the lot but not alot of boats in any one spot. fished inlet south of the island with 3 bites but none to the boat. then went down the north shore toward the dam and found a couple of schools that created a little excitement. got two triples in the boat for a total of 6 and one more on the way to the docks. fished from 11 am till 4 pm. caught everything on purple.

minnkota terrova

put minnkota terrova 101 on my 18ft seaswirl. Bow mount makes all the difference. only noise is harmonic whine from downrigger lines. Love the ability to set up with gps nav and have boat on course with little adjustment.

very windy at gp on sunday and still in complete control. Next step is their new link to Humminbird lakemaps so that it will follow the contour lines and hug the shore. Out in december.

I sold my Honda 9.9 for enough to cover the cost of the terrova and batteries. a little heavier because of 3 batteries, but boat sits dead flat in the water, and still gets on plane just fine.

three words I LOVE IT!

Fished Saturday the 14th started early wasn't much of a morning bite as we were on the lake at 5:45 AM we managed to put 32 in the boat was kind of hard to figure them out purple really didn't work for us my wife got 3/4 of the fish with a short leader of 14 inches on a pink wedding ring with a half silver half gold blade( Indiania spinner).pulling behind a custom made ALVEN WOBBLER. great day

We fished from 7-2:30 landed 25 fish. Pink hoockie behind a UV sling blade was our ticket. Fished from the dam to the east end of the lake. We caught a lot of small fish and found the larger ones at the east end.

We fished July 15 - 18th. Fish were all small 12 1/2 and under. Very disappointing. We used purple hoochies and purple sling blades. Also caught a few on wedding rings with medium blades. We fished the South side of the island and caught the bigger fish and fished across from the 1st boat ramp and out to the point and caught the rest. None were picture worthy!! Fish were all about 50 to 60 feet down.
