Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions Kokadale! Now I just need to find a gold Vance dodger. I think I have every color but gold.
You can find the gold dodgers at Economy Supply in Lebanon they also have a good assortment of kokanee tackle. Hoys hardware in Sweet Home and Dey bait shop in Lebanon also has the Dodgers.

Kokadale,

It was a pleasure to meet you today and get a couple of those Vance golds. I appreciate letting me pick your brain for all of that good information. http://www.kokaneefishingforum.com/fishing-forums/images/smilies/worthy.gif

Really impressed that other guy would give me some of that silver tape for free. http://www.kokaneefishingforum.com/fishing-forums/images/icons/icon14.png

That's pretty cool ! I'm anxious to get out and put all this new stuff to the test.
Best of luck in your goal of another 1200 fish season.

Fished GP from 8 till 11 on Thurs. 8/16. Caught 16, average size 10" or 11". White crappie tube w/ double hooks behind dodger with silver and gold prism tape at 55' to 70'. Flashers on DR ball, and 12' setback. West end of island towards mouth of Quarts Creek. Stayed in the same area all morning no need to move. They appeared to be catching fish on the other side of the island as well.

OOPS!
WRONG THREAD!

Took a short drive for a scouting trip to Wickiup today. Talked to a few guys, and all said the same thing, "It's dead" One guy had 3 quick fish, and that was his total action. Fish finders are showing thick masses of fish, but not hitting. Jigging, trolling, drifting, doesn't matter.

Now, is there anyone who has a good catching report recently ? I plan to go Monday through Wednesday, and would really appreciate some updates. I'd like to get a few before the channels shut down in a week. Campgrounds were even really empty for this time of year. Still, they call it fishing, and not catching.

Just got back from 4 days fishing at Wickiup. The fishing was terrible as everyone has reported. Got a 14 incher, really bright and nice and a few small ones. So we packed up and went to East Lake where we killed them!!! See my East Lake report.

Same thing from me as well. Just got home after two days at Wickiup. Very foggy early morning, and the wind came up around noon and blew hard. We fished for 4 hours and got one 9" fish. Talked to about 8 other boaters and one guy had a 12", everyone else was skunked. Surprised at the lack of fish jumping, normally they are all over the place. I'll take your advice, and give East Lake a shot. Headed down to Diamond after the weekend crowd goes away.

I fished it Saturday with my daughter, her boyfriend and his parents. We landed 34 and easily lost that many. We had action pretty much all day but it came in groups. Nothing for a while then all 3 rods would get bit. The fish are definitely starting to change and it might be my last trip.

I'm coming to fish in your fish box. I don't think I could find 34 fish in the whole reservoir that would bite.
Thanks for the previous info, I tried your suggestions and still didn't do a darn thing.

All hail to the Kokanee king, Fallriverguy

Sounds like a great trip Brian! What's your secret on getting the muddy taste out if it's an issue there this late in the season?

Others have told me that removing the skin helps. What I do notice is the hens loose flavor before bucks and when the scales drop, the table fair decreased and they become destined for the smoker.

Now the the season is over I thought I would post a recap of my season at Wickiup. It was a strange year for me kokanee fishing. Other than the KP derbies I did not fish any place except Wickiup. I also did not fish that much this year. Lots of other things pull for my attention. In summary, scented corn out fished Berkely Gulp Maggots which is a switch from last year. Hoochies caught most of the fish but I had a couple of good spinner bites. The spinner were either home made or Assassin spinners from RMT. A variety of pink or orange hoochies worked best but a few odd hoochies produced too and some days ruled. The best results came either using sling blades or a variety of Seps 4/0 dodgers. Also caught some with a Vance's gold dodger. As always I changed gear a lot to keep on the bite.

I kept hearing the fishing was slow but I guess I was lucky and found the fish to be willing biters most days.

The pictures are in chronological order.

That is impressive. We started the season at Wickiup. Caught a bunch on opening day. Went back the next day and caught only ONE. Went back just about every week after that for 4-6 weeks and caught just a handful and gave up on Wickiup. We never talked to anybody at the boat ramp that was catching anything there. Switched to Paulina and East lake for the rest of the summer and have been doing great at both those lakes. But, the fish are half the size of the ones we caught opening day at Wickiup.

Fallriverguy- you are the master of Wickiup!

All I want to do is go throw rocks at my kokanee gear. Geez, you have the touch Brian. What you caught in one picture, is more than I caught on Wickiup all season. Great job, and next year, I'm fishing out of your fish box. Guess I'll have to stick to Diamond Lake. We've done as well there on big rainbows, as you have on the kokes.
