Wind Looking Good

Going to make another stab at it Tuesday and Wed this week as the wind forecast is looking better. Will report back Thursday, after I clean all my fish. nananana

I went up for about 3-4 hours on Friday. I launched at the ramp closest to the dam. I picked up one fish in the first 15 minutes or so, just across from the ramp near the rock point leading into the first cove. It was a small fish (12 inches at the most and probably smaller), but it got off right as I was reaching for the net. Didn't get another take the whole time.

De-Dub 3 days of fishing

Fished Thurs, Fri, Sat for a total of 15 fish. Some were VERY NICE 20 and 22" shiny and feisty.
Did best on the downriggers at 20ft. Camped at Curlew and had a great time. Pink seemed to be the color of choice.
Smoked some yesterday and they are finger licking good!

I think it will only get better later in the season.

Take care and God Bless DW

stayed at curlew last weekend and fished all day sat and all day sun. I'm not sure what is going on, but no one is catching fish. We went home with 9 total. Most were caught within the first hour of both days. Everyone, including the sheriff, is saying the same. No fish are being caught. 2 guys I talked to fished all day sunday and got one each........Didn't mark any schools, and when I did see marks, there were no bites. All the fish we caught were in random places, and not one of them was closer that a 1/2 mile from another.

I really hope it gets better, I'm not a big fan of one fish every two hours. We decided to go to cj next weekend, instead of back to Anderson. My father in law went last weekend and slayed the crappy, good sized ones too.

Fathers Day on Dworshak.

Put in at Bruces and headed up lake about 7AM. Lots of boats at Indian Creek where I had been last few weeks, so passed it by. A couple working at Canyon, passed it by since I was betting it would get busy and I'm more into hunting fish in not so common places than joining a gang. Headed up to the bridge since it was good last week. Not so good today, just a few hits on the west side and nothing on my sonar.

So went back down and tried Elk. Several other boats working the mouth, a couple in further in behind the destination dock. Wasn't hot and heavy like last week but plenty enough action to keep us interested. Fish were deeper. At times we would hit all the 25-30 foot downriggers and heavier long line at once while the light long lines would go untouched, even though they caught regular numbers of fish. Everything seemed to work, brass pop gear early, bright chrome or dimpled chrome later in the day. Home made morphodite orange-green lures with #3 white spinner blades seemed to hit best (I buy the bulk brass blades from Cabelas and spray paint em white or black or whatever). Only thing I had no success with was dodgers. I probably need someone who knows what they are doing teach me something about them, maybe use a stick since I'm slow and dense where dodgers come in. I must be doing it all wrong.

After I pulled out I found my transducer mount was popped up from hitting a stick somewhere. Hence a good reason I never showed fish on the finder.

Another great day fishing at Dworshak with the family. 16 year old son spent most of it snoring as he'd had all his buddies over and had a big bonfire out back until midnight. At least the sheriff didn't show to ask what they were doing this time. He would always get up when we hit too many lines for the wife and I to handle, but usually too late to be of any real use. Teenagers can be a lot of fun or more like an itch ya can't scratch. Like athletes foot on the brain.

Anyway, nice batch of fish. Fat and big. Had some incredible fighters on the lines. One was jumping over the top of a couple of the long lines causing some interesting gymnastics to get poles handed around.

going to try and smoke some Koks - I assume , as small as they are that you smoke whole - any insight, would like to hear, any methods

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't smoke mine whole. I want to get more smoke flavor into the meat so I fillet first to expose the center meat directly to the smoke.

When I have something to fillet, that is. Last trip out was bleak. It was my first time on LP, so I was actually a bit surprised to even hook up after hearing all the other bleak reports.

22 kokes last weekend caught & released 2 chinook. Just got to know where to look :)

Serious question: What is the point of contributing to these forums if you withhold all relevant information? Seems like if your goal is to be secretive, everyone is better off if you just keep your mouth shut.

ya its kind of like, I caught lots of fish and you didn't with a smiley face :) - I agree, the forum is to let others know whats up and help each other out - giving info on gear, depth, speed and general area, I think, is to be expected if on the forum - I have given my exact method many times - but, ya know some people just glean from others info and don't give any out - that be with a frowny face :(

I swear only on this forum would someone ask that question. So you want me to put on the internet how I catch fish? How bout NO :) Your a big boy go figure it out. I spend alot of time figuring things out myself no one taught me. I fish long hard hours when the fish are not biting sometimes 14 hour days.

I will share this, if something is not working change it up. How many kokabows, hoochies, ford fenders, dodgers, wedding rings ect have these fish seen come July & August. Try changing things up. If the water warms go deeper, watch your depth finder, watch the full moon cycle, certain times of day produce more than others. In my opinion there is no one way of doing it, just figure it out everyday is different. I hope that helps.

Dear mister Nitehawk, how bout a picture of these hauls? I'd sure like to see some of the kings. I still haven't caught one.

We did end up netting something even more rare than a Chinook last trip. An unopened Fat Tire beer was just floating around lime creek. Happy fathers day to me. :)

Fat Tire was caught off the surface, trolling around 1.6 mph.
