2024 Arrowrock Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Help Support Kokanee Fishing Forums:

Went up last Sunday to get the boat wet. Caught a few nice fish. 30-40’ down in 80-100’ of water. Pink or pink and chartreuse worked. The road is absolutely horrendous. There are signs now with the phone numbers of what I’m assuming are the ACHD commissioners. Probably wouldn’t hurt to start mass calling them.

Fished Arrowrock on Thursday...... from sunrise (around 0700) to about noon. The first hour was just awesome. I boated 4 reasonably large Kokes, 3 at about 18 inches and one about 16 inches. I couldn't tell you how many fish got away...but it was lots and lots. Couldn't seem to help pulling the hook. I should have had my limit in about 30 minutes. Then, around 0830, things got absolutely quiet....just nothing....nada.....zip.....zilch. By 0900 it was absolutely dead. I saw only a few boats get a fish from about 0900 to noon. I only had 3 drive by hits in the later morning hours. Moved around the reservoir and still didn't pick up any fish.....and only 3 bites. It was like someone shut off a switch.

There were about 2 dozen trailers in the parking lot and parked on the beach. I had at least a dozen boats fishing around me in the later morning..... so there was considerable pressure and effort present. But....it was absolutely a beautiful morning on the lake. And I met some awesome folks while pulling the boat out of the water. Great Morning....

The road still sucks....not as bad as I've seen it in the past....but it still sucks.

The wife and I took a trip to Arrowrock Reservoir to see the condition of the lake and the road. The good news is that there was zero snow any where to be seen....and I can honestly say that I have never seen the road in such good condition. I don't know if the road had been grated recently or not, but it was smooth with literally no washboard. The bad news is that the lake is probably three quarters covered with pretty thick ice. The ramp is clear and dry....but the Ice starts about 15 feet from shore and goes out to as far as the eye can see. I launched some pretty large boulders (5-10 pounders) high into the air and they landed on the ice like they were hitting concrete.....absolutely no slushy splash.....and no dent in the ice. They just bounced. Even if you could get your boat to float off the trailer (which looks pretty doubtful) there is absolutely no where to go. As you pass the dam, heading in, the water near the dam is ice free..... but there is no way to get to that clear water from the ramp. There were 2 rigs on the water, but they were launched from the beach....closer to the dam...and they were smaller boats. That can be risky because those large ice sheets move, and the potential for being trapped is always there. I would say a minimum of 2 weeks.....maybe 3 till I head back up.

I don't know how I missed this post last year. I haven't laughed so much in a long while. Just an FYI, your precious road to Arrowrock is in Boise County. The current ACHD commission doesn't fish, excepting for Kent Goldthorpe, and he won't do a damn thing for whiners. Ask him nice and you might just get some help. Get rid of your crooked Sheriff, prosecutor and judge who hammer Ada County drivers with fraudulent tickets between Hwy 21 and Spring Shores and Goldthorpe will probably personally scrape the road, weekly.

See where I said that I “assume” it’s ACHD commissioners? I misspoke obviously. I’m glad you got a laugh out of it a year later though. Bless your heart.
