Just thought Id toss a heads up Im going Monday. Weather looks to be nice. Anyone else going to be lurking on the lake? Expect a full detailed report Monday afternoon! tooexcited See you out there.

Best of luck. Water is still a little cold, but on the other hand the fish have to eat.

I know, I know... lol But I have cabin fever and need to get away from these damn books! Its hard enough reading posts on this forum and studying at the same time. Knowing that American is 10 minutes away and my boat is in front of my house makes it worse! Ill go drag some gear and let ya know how it goes. If anything, Ill be enjoying some hot coa coa fresh from the Jet Boil and asking my dog if he knows where the fish are.thumbsup

Gave American a shot this A/M (Cabin Fever). Had a couple bumps but no takers. Water temp was 43 degrees and it was 44 when I last hit the lake 3 weeks ago. Need a couple weeks of good weather to bring the temp up so the fish start getting active. The fish were scattered at various depths.

Thanks for the report! We might need to start a sun dance here soon!

Just made another trip to Sportco.. I gotta stop doing that lol. I dont have high hopes but Im excited non the less. I cant stand sitting around watching youtube videos of last seasons catch anymore! Thanks for the good luck wishes. I made some last minute adjustments to my arsenal of koke gear. Hopefully well see one in the boat. If not Ill just turn my attention to the trout in the shallower areas around the shores.

Oh how I miss those. We would usually plan a weekend trip Mothers Day weekend to go to the Kamloops BC area and catch huge Kamloops fish on size 18 hooks.. crazy!

I might have to break out my fly stuff and try that!

Oh you bet! I have always got my fly fishing gear on hand. After a bit of studying tonight Ill have to tie up a few of those patterns as Im not sure I have any. Now if I can just remember where I put my vise! lol My reloading bench took over most of the real estate not to long ago.

Is this a chronomid pattern?? Has anyone here actually caught an early season koke on one of these? I met a guy at Bridge Lake BC many moons ago who used a similar pattern with more red. He caught a few fish on this as the water stabilized post-ice. RP

Rikker99,

Chironomids are part of the basic diet for trout and other fish. In lakes that support a healthy chironomid population you will find trout literally gorging themselves with these guys sometimes puking them out when you bring them to the net they've eaten so much.

The link here shows what chironomids look like suspended in water along with the various patterns you can tie to match. . As you will see they look similiar to mosquitos without the bite.

Black, browns and dark olive colors are the most popular colors and they can be caught with red patterns as well.

Well here it is. I must start with the fact that we all indeed know that the water temp is far lower than what is needed. The day started off great. The 15 horse I was worrying about fired up like a champ and scooted right along. We had all the gear we needed and off to the races we went. We trolled all around the big island, made numerous runs back and forth from island to N. boat ramp. NOTHIN'! not even a nibble. Just as everyone else has reported. I knew it was bound to happen but can you blame a guy for trying? I threw everything at em' INCLUDING the kitchen sink. Dodgers of all sizes/colors, smile blades to the craziest of Mack's. Nothing. The most action we had was when we decided to anchor down on the north side of the big island and toss a few worms and pautzke eggs out on a bobber... A friggin' Kokanee jumped no more than 2 feet off the bow! TWICE! 20 from the shore line! was super funny. What a jokester..Anyway no such luck yet. The trout didnt even want to come out and play. Heres a few pics from the trip. Unfortunately no fish where harmed in the making of these pics.
All in all was a nice day on the lake.

KokChris -
Nice on getting out there. I can't blame you on getting out. I plan to get out on Saturday and I know that it is too cold still. As soon as the water warms up, it should be a lot of fun.

Ill be out saturday as well. I was talking to some guys around the lake and the general consensus was just that, too cold. Who cares though. Them buggers gotta eat sometime! Next week is suppose to be (dare I say it..) near 60. So lets keep our fingers crossed. Till the temp comes up Ill give it my best. If all else fails Ill go back to Horeshoe and slay the hold overs.
