Well I was at it again this morning. Started at 5, The fog was epic. Took my youngest boy and my best bud. We landed 7 lost a few and a few takedowns. Was off the water by 11. They were banging bright and early but as soon as the fog blew off so did the bite. Two were 18 inches and just pigs. the other believe it or not were run of the mill size. Shocked but glad to see. You know they say if your only catching big ones that is a bad sign for the fishery. But today caught a few little guys. Will report Sat after my next trip. Happy 4th

We camped at Wickiup the entire week of the fourth. We also were out there fishing on the fourth and did well. Some folks seem to be struggling catching fish, it was not red hot but steady for us. Our largest was 19 inches with a few in the 16-18 range and the rest somewhat smaller. It is definitely fishing different this year than in the past for us. The size of the fish is definitely worth wait.

The only problem that day was the brainless guy in the really nice boat going full out through the fog like he was the only boat out there. He could have really ruined our trip if he had hit us but luckily he never got that close.

I've seen a lot in the print media the last few days that says fishing at Wickiup is picking up. Anyone have a first hand report to verify this ? I'm thinking of giving it a try if fishing is good. If so, what's the hot ticket to get a few fish in the net ?

ah go on, there aint no fish in Wickiup! done three days of fishing there in the last month and never a bite and didn't talk to anyone else that did either. Maybe i need to take fishin lessons????

I last fished with my buddy and his son on the fourth of July and they both caught two kok's 18" long and one that was 15" long then four smaller ones. So yes there are fish in Wickiup but ya gotta start at first light . We were running around out in the fog not knowing what direction we were going and as soon as the fog lifted they quit biting. So use dodgers and hootchie things and heavily scented white shoepeg corn and ya might do ok. But it is a hard lake to fish sometimes that's for sure.

If you don't have downriggers just strip your line out about 24 to 30 pulls. Use a sliding sinker set up. 36 in leader from swivel to dodger and than the hoochie of your choice. I suggest Hoochie things.. Orange and green ones work. They don't have to be solid colors either. Orange and white Green and white. Try a few till you get the right one. Scented corn also. Homemade seems to work the best.... Let me know if that helps
If your on the water saturday jsut look for the little green boat with the red star on the side and the net being dipped alot!!!!!tooexcited

i was using a downrigger and threaded crawlers. but no one else seemed to be doing any good when i was there last. wasnt able to graph any fish so i just tried diferent depths down to 30. tried wdding rings as well

Well I went out this morning and fished till about 11 and not even one single bite. used the same gear as always. Man what a bummer!!! What happened. Every boat out there was right in front of the Dock. Who knows. I am at a total loss.

you know!! White shoepeg corn. Made by Green Giant. It's kind of a little can. Man I was up there Sat and I must have needed fishing lessons. Not even a bite. I'm not going to give up though. I tried Paulina Sun. Woke up about 9 on the lake by 1030. Had action the whole time. We left about 330. Ended up with 6. Lost a few and had a bunch of bites. Oh yeah caught a gnarly sunburn.

Yeah I have a little 14ft green boat with this red star the previous owner painted on each side of the boat. Who knows. It ain't much but it's mine and it has gotten me alot more kokanee than sitting on the bank.

Never apologize for a having a boat that catches fish. There are a ton of fancy ass boats sitting around doing nothing and catching nothing. RP

chuckle....sounds like me with my ancient old gregor u125 with a 4strke merk that i have, no star just a few dents, caught lots of fish out of. I ordered a new Wooldridge Alaskan and took delivery of it this time last year but so far it dont catch fish. The alaskan has all options and then some, a very nice little boat but i am back to using the ancient old gregor which i should sell. Next week i will have the alaskan at wiciup. pm me if you want to meet up? Over the next couple of weeks i can go any time, after this week that is.

I found out shoeprg corn is a cultivator but found no b rand of canned corn in the store claiming to have used shoepeg? Can i use any canned sweet corn then? I noticed green giant has one that they soak in sugar which sells for fifty cents a can more than the regular grwen giant canned corn.

Just head into your local grocery and ask them where the Green Giant white shoepeg canned corn is...... All the bait shops carry it also but overcharge you for it..... Wholesale sports has it on there kokanee aisle. No sweet corn unless your gonna mix it with your mashed potatoes.
