I have seen this discussion on other forums but not here that I can find.

What, in your opinion is the best fillet knife, or at least what is your favorite?

Forchesner, Wusthof, Cutco, Dexter, etc. I have ran across one recently I have never heard of before, a Leech Lake Knife.

I think it will be ineresting to hear your opinions. I suspect everyone has their favorite, and there may not be any clear preference by the majority, but it would be fun to read your opinions, afterall, it's the middle of winter, what else do we have to do.......movie89586

Cutco

Buy far hands down the cutco is the best Fillet knife you ever buy, no I don't work for them but I have had this knife for the last eight years and it holds the edge just as the day I got it. I'm amazed year after year, If I lost it I would order another tonight. Its adjustable from 6-9 inches I think, here is the link. I know there pricey around 100 bucks or so.

The best fillet knife is a sharp fillet knife. Keep the knife sharp and a $20 knife works just fine for me.

i picked up a kershaw fillet knife off the snapon truck and its been the best knife ive ever used. and it only cost me $12tooexcited

I forgot to include ceramic knives. I have never seen one with a fillet blade, but a friend of mine has a ceramic he picKed up for 10 bucks at harbor freight tools and he loves it for filleting.

Buck makes a great 6 1/2" blade for $21.99. Holds an edge just fine and held up to the salt on my trips to Canada and the Oregon coast for Salmon/Halibut. Didn't need to be sharpened til I returned home and a quick freshwater spray down at the end of each day was all it needed to keep the rust away. I picked up another Buck just last week (for backup) when they went on sale for $9.99 at Cabelas. I agree with Super D, when it comes to filet knifes. Keep it sharp and a $20 dollar knife will last a long time. Put the money you saved towards something important, like a new rod or reel.tongue2

I use an electric knife due to the fact that I am lazy and every knife I ever tried to sharpen seemed to come out duller than it was when I started.

i use a fiskar 8" blade with a built in shapener in the sheath.......works great and dont have a sperate sharpener with me

I have both a Cutco and a Buck. The Cutco is amazing. I love the extendable blade...it comes in handy when I am out at Sekiu cleaning salmon, esp. kings. It has so many cool features. Mike

Lifetime Warranty ?

I purchased a Cutco fillet knife years ago. It was a really neat looking knife (and quite pricey). The tip (about 1/4") broke off the second time I used it. I stuffed it away for a number of years untill a friend told me that Cutco knives have a Lifetime Warranty.

I was so excited ... it is a really nice knife and I was so happy to hear that it was warranteed for life ... anyway, I looked up Cutco on line and sent them an email with the details about the broken tip.

Their reply was that they couldn't guarantee that the tip could be restored until they saw it, but if I sent it in for resaharpening it should be satisfactory. OK, I was expecting a new knife, but I'll pay to send it in. But wait, there's more .....

I also had to pay for shipping both ways, and the resharpening charge. Hmmmmm .......... I put the knife away and haven't used it since. Why didn't they just send me a new knife with the original tip in tact ?

Nothing you described sounds like they acknowledged any warranty issue. Was the word, warranty" ever mentioned or part of your note when sending it in?

I have two Forschner in the boat/a long with a Accusharp knife sharper, its has diamonds for sharping the blade . The kind you just swipe the blade through actually it works extremely well. The angles are preset. I picked it up at the local hardware store. I couldn't sharpen a knife if my life depended on it. The Forschner get dull just like any other knife.I'm more impressed with the knife sharpner then the knife. But I always have sharp knifes.I have like 4 of them sharpners. It takes two or three strokes with the and I'm fat city.

mrmike, I bought my first sharpener like that that years ago at the ISE show and I liked it so much I started buying one every year. The only way I ever know where something is is to have enough of them spread around everywhere that one is bound to be viseable.

Buy the ceramic knife from Harbor freight it never dulls. You will need to wash it off between fish as the stuff sticks to the knife other than that it is super sharp and like I said it never needs sharpening. I used it all last hear for maybe 300 Kokes and it is still sharp as a razor. DON'T TOUCH MY KNIFEthumbsup
