Downrigger Ball Rigging Question

Kokanee Fishing Forums

Help Support Kokanee Fishing Forums:

Don't figure on any absolutes when it comes to kokes or fishing in general. I've had about the opposite experience as Silver Bullets. The morning bite was off the hook and then went dead mid morning. I put one ball troll out of the 4 downriggers and that rod started to catch fire again. I liked the advice of putting one out on one side of the boat and letting the fish decide what they want.

SuperD is right-on. There are no absolutes when it comes to fishing. If what your doing quits working, try the opposite....keep experimenting. The main thing is to not get stuck doing the same thing all day long. Every lake is different, so you need to find what works best in your home waters. If something worked last year or even a hour ago, don't be fooled thinking it's gonna work the rest of the day...kokanee like to play games!

dubob, ball trolls are a set of blades that can be 3' long and up.
?????

A 3 foot long blade? Sorry, I never heard of such a thing. I still don't have a grasp of this terminology - seriously.

Do you by any chance mean that a dodger/flasher is attached 3 feet or more behind the ball without any terminal tackle behind the dodger/flasher? Then the rod line is cliped to the ball cable just above the ball with the terminal tackle above and some distance behind the dodger/flasher? That's the only thing I can visualize at this point. Or am I still not seeing it?

Sorry if I seem like a novice. I've been using downriggers for probably 25 or more years and I have never heard the term 'ball trolling.'

Ball troll

I don't know if I can explain it any better but that won't stop me from trying thumbsup. They are talking about connecting a set of flashers to the downrigger ball. Connect the actual fishing line above it so that your hooks end up above and a little behind the flasher below on the downrigger ball. This way when you hook up with your Kokanee you aren't fighting the fish and the resistance from flashers on same line, just the fish and whatever lure you have.

Hope I helped and didn't make it worse.

dubob a ball troll is basicly a popgear hooked right to the downrigger ball
Ahhhhhh, the

just went on! I was trying to visualize a 3 foot long dodger (blade).

Go to www.kokaneemart.com and click on "attractors." Then click on "cannonball flash". The Vance's Ball Trolls are very popular. I sometimes run 2 sets in tandem...really gets the kokanee's attention when their spread out!thumbsup
