How much has the condition of the economy effected your tackle purchases? At this rate, Cabelas won't be sending me a hardbound catalog this year. The sad part is my list of deferred maintenance items on the boat is also growing. I would estimate my spending relative to fishing tackle and boat stuff is easily down 50% from a typical year. How would you estimate your spending based on a normal year?

I had a little catching up to do in the tackle department and I've actually spent more in the past 8 months than the previous 20 months combined. My my situation changed with a couple kids moving out on their own. Less food, less utilities, auto insurance, etc... Its almost like getting a raise. I also picked up an extra job last year to cover my wifes medical bills and help recoop some of the hit that our retirement accounts took.

As long as SuperD keeps sending me free stuff, I have nothing to worry about. I also don't have a problem getting into Petty's tackle box. I'm just waiting for him to bring some beer. tongue2 laugh hyst

I've actually been trying to cut down on my tackle purchases the last couple years. Last count the Plano box's full of different lures is at 48....around 20 of which are dedicated to kokanee. Don't even ask about dodgers!
Taking the trailer in to get worked on this week and shopping around for a new trolling motor for the upcoming season...that should do it for a while.thumbsup

I've slowed down somewhat as well. I may buy more during the "winter doldrums", but my boxes are pretty full of stuff. I might buy some stuff at the ISE show.

F_M, you go to the Sacramento ISE show? Usually a bunch of us Hooker/Sniffers get together and go on a particular day and meet up for a tri tip sandwich. I usually save my dodger purchases for the ISE show since I can talk to Jared, Gary and Ken directly and give them a bad time.

I've got so much tackle that I need to add extra floatation to the SmokerCraft! Almost everyone I take fishing with me comments endlessly claiming I must be one of Cabela's major suppliers. I don't think I need any more tackle, it just makes me more impatient with lure selection. I have spent nearly $300 in the past few weeks on new rods and reels and that is even buying them on sale. I'm pretty well stocked on the Kokanee paraphernalia the problem now is I like to chase other species as well. On the Gorge I NEED IT ALL!

Funding doesn't seem to be the problem. Its always about the selection of what you want in your arsenal. You have to be able discipline yourself on priorities or go broke. Sometimes its hard to get those priorities straight. Alot of the items I have in my tackle boxes that I'm not using anymore or not as much can be sold at a yard sale. Recovery of some of that money could be put towards other items. But if I did that, I have lost some of my stories or lies. laugh hyst Its always great to have the conversation pieces in place. movie89586

Roger, many of my failed reel experiments have been recycled and used as a portion payment on the next experiment.

Well...looking at needing a whole new axle after taking the boat and trailer over to the shop today. The good news is won't have to deal with bearing buddies anymore...new type of hubs! Oh well, money is no object when it comes to fishing...right? violin I think the price of kokanee just went up another $200 a pound for next season! crymeariver

Tell us more about the new type of hubs...not that I need any, but you never know. Maybe fill us in on a seperate thread as not to hijack.

Yes, I think I'll be going to the Sacramento show...not sure when it is. It would be good to meet you and some of the other guys.

My spending was down a little this year, but not much. I figured I saved a little money with fuel prices being almost half what they were Summer 2008. Unfortunately, I have almost $600 in repairs that need to go into the boat next spring before I can even use it. That kills the tackle budget for the rest of this year and 2010.

I can relate to some of the comments. It seems like one never has enough gear. I'm going to concentrate more on technique next year more than assuming more gear is what is required.
