I will go closer to home and more often. The big trips are out. I drive a corolla
that gets 35-37 MPG so when I drive my truck and go fishing, I feel justified to spend those extra dollars. I will likely start sleeping in my boat which will save camping fees. There are ways to cut cost so I can still fish.

Im going to try and cut back on petrol by using the bow mount electric motor for part of the fishing day (prob wishful thinking) and really try to cut down on trolling entirely and learn to jig for kokes this year.

Trolling isn't too bad, it is the "getting to the spot on the lake" that hits the pocket. I put $80 in yesterday and all I got was 1/4 tank on one tank, equals 1/8 tank total!! Thats what i get for running a big block and a Hamilton jet. I will keep my trips more localized and will start hitting up my fishing buddies for some gas money, feels like highschool saying that, but it doesn't take much driving to burn the $80 up.

If you're providing the ride to the lake, on the lake and home from the lake, there shouldn't be much of a complaint. Real friends would offer without having to ask them anyway. Put enough fuel in for a one-way trip then you have to stop on the way home. Don't forget to top off the boat while you're at it. If they don't chip in, the next time they ask to go tell them you can't afford it. That should drive home the need for $$$!!!!

I ain't the Hamilton's fault. Dang big block anyhow...been there done that. 101wave2101

I usually don't ask my buddies for fuel money since most of the time I'm going to go whether they are with me or not. I have a pretty short crew roster and usually they will pony up a few bucks without having to ask. Most of time they are coy about it and I usually find some 20's in the boat somewhere or in the console of the truck. Cracks me up every time. Good crew is hard to find.

Exactly, most of the time I am going anyways so it is nice to have the company. A few of good fishing buddies have been out of work for a while so they are watching thier money, so I don't feel too bad. They will sometimes bring lunch and help out with some fuel cost, some here and there. We have a annaul trip planned each year for a 4 day fishing trip, and they have been saving for that. Until things get better for them, I am the sole source of fishing for them. I am happy to do it.
