I was in sportco (my local fishing warehouse in Washington State) re-building my Drop shot hook supply.

Of course had to check the "other" kokanee tackle. They have a new "Flasher" in the Dodger section.

It's called KiteTail flasher. It is a True flasher in that it rotates, but it is a much different shape that a normal "flasher". It states that it is no or low drag.

On Normal Salmon Sized 11" flashers you have to troll over 2mph to get them to rotate...which is fine for salmon...but too fast for kokes in most situations.
The kitetail supposedly rolls over at much lower speeds.

My question is..has anybody used for kokanee? Is there a reason against a "flasher" that rotates at slow speeds?

Below is a Youtube video showing these flashers. Granted the video is using them for Salmon fishing...these are the same as the ones that were in the kokanee section at Sportco.

At the end of the video, the learn to surf fish video is pretty funny. Look for the reel she uses for ocean surf fishing. cracked me up!!

I ran across these a couple years ago. But not this brand. They've been using them in the Great Lakes for a long time to target chinook and coho.
I always wondered why I haven't seen anyone using them here on the west coast.
Maybe they've caught on in Washington.

2mph is pretty fast for kokes. Might work later in the season or those days where I couldn't get a bite under 1.7mph.

They look like they'd work well for trout. I might a have to get one and try them at diamond or hagg.

These look pretty interesting so I went ahead and ordered one to try out this spring. Doesn't look like there is much to them for $14 bucks but I'll try anything once. Looks like they could easily be fabricated at home. I'll try once I have one for a go by.
