Another year and another Berryessa derby weekend. This year was a lot tougher bite for us as our good fortune of big fat fish ran out of luck and the captain was scrambling desparately to unlock a bite for the kids. The run of throwing out pink lures was not producing like it has done all season, especially like the week before so its a good thing I have plenty of tackle to rotate. Hey - it is called fishing after all!
I got up to the lake on Friday to test some new waters but nothing was really peaking my interest on the fish finder or at the end of the lines. The kids joined me Sat morning and we headed to our various nooks and crannies between Goat and Skier's but we only managed a few smaller fish and then Jenna scored two decent fish in the 15 and 16 inch class which managed to get Jenna in 3rd place in the youth division so she was a happy camper! On Sunday we went back out and my better half joined us for a slow morning that gave us only 3 fish in the boat but two of them were nice fat 16 inchers at least.
The fish we did get bit on the UV Spinner Hoochie, Pink Spinner and Assassin in Chartreuse and Pink and also some Apexes all behind a variety of dodgers and sling blades all at 38 to 61 feet. On with the pics...
How about a sunrise....
There was a lot of this action going on Derby day....
Finally something to smile about...
