Fished Camanche Saturday with Jenna this time around to see if we could experience some rare Kokanee action... We started off catching a few trout and then finally popped a few Kokanee but then we could not buy a fish after that so we fished until 2PM and then pulled the plug and spent 45 minutes scouting for new locations but didn't see anything promising. Both Kokes came at 68 feet on a pink Bahama Mama setup.

There were only about 10 boats out and the radio was pretty quiet so I am guessing it was not an easy bite for the Kokanee. I had the video camera running in hopes of seeing them on the approach to the lure but the reality was out of 5 hours of video I found only 3 encounters in the post editing phase today. This surprised me quite a bit given what I saw on the fish finder. Also in taking the temperature profile there was a wide path of water between 60 to 56 degree water between 50 to 95 feet and that was in 100 feet of water so there wasn't any cooler water in the area I measured that deep and Camanche doesn't get too much deeper overall.

Here's the fish we caught which were 16 and 17 inches.

Way to go!

I know the feeling of working hard for not much of a bite. It seems that, being newer to this than a lot of the guys here, I spend a lot more time on lakes looking for fish and "hacking around" with gear selections than others may do. You are a great fisherman...it just wasn't a good fishing day.

I chalk it up as a learning experience plus anytime a daughter is willing to get up at 3AM and go fishing with me then that was worth the day already. I'll be off to Stampede this coming weekend for the derby and may fish Tahoe on Sunday if it works out.
