Lake Merwin - 2/4/12

We knew the forecast would be iffy, but we had to give it a try.

Plus I wanted to try out the hoochies that I have been tying up.

Anyway back to the report. The wind wasn't too bad at 8:30 we managed one good troll with one bite. About 15 minutes later we had a double going, and after one of them came unbuttoned my second rod had a fish on. We were able to land two nice kokanee, and then the wind really started to pick up. We tried one more pass with the wind at our backs but couldn't get the speed down. The wind was blowing us 2.1 knots over the area I wanted to fish.

We decided to pickup and find a quieter spot bot not luck. It was a good day out with no issues to speak of. If mother nature would have cooperated perhaps we could have stayed out longer, but I was happy to get out.

We ended with with 6-7 good bites and two fish aboard.

thanks for the early season report. really encouraging.
beautiful weather we're having 60d F+ days but the E wind has just been howling in Vanc.
I'd do yard work and be dreaming off on having the boat on Merwin trolling for kokes.
this time of year, it's a bear fishing. clear blue sky and wind howling or drizzling cold rain and no wind.

sure beautiful and good for the spirits, a warm sunny winter day on Merwin with the fish biting.

guess I'll be trolling in the rain next month. any day fishing is better than yard work.signfishin

2-5 Merwin

Went out today and the minute we got our lines wet the wind kicked up something fierce. Ended up fishing down by the Dam the wind was a bit lighter down there. We started poking around with not much for fish in the screen then we saw huge masses of fish down deep. Not long after we had both rods go down almost at the same time. We fished that area for a couple of more hours with 4-5 more take downs and a 3rd small fish in the boat. I had one rig down at 30 ft and it had zero action, all the action was only 10-15 feet deep.

Merwin Sunday 2-5-12

I fished most of the day with my friends Joel, Paul, & Doug. It was was windy until noon and then started to slow down about 3. We went down close to the dam to get out of the wind in the morning then back up near the Campers Hideaway Marina. We ran 4 poles all day and ended up with 10 the largest about 12", using small Hoochies,Bugs, and Spinners behind Shasta Sling Blades. The fish were 10 to 20 feet down but I had 1 hit a Hoochie on top before I could clip it on the DR cable!
It was a good day & we had a lot of fun, even when I was steering from the front for about 1 hour before I realized that Joel had disconnected the connecter rod that links the 2 motors and he was actually driving the boat from the rear seat! laugh laugh hyst Yep there I was talking & having a good time just driving along dumb & happy!

Anyone recording water temp? I know I ask all the time, but I rarely get an answer from this or another forum. If it was up to me, I'd go out more often however, my Dad doesn't want to go unless the water is warming up since our last outing. Not much fun fishing a boat by yourself.

How deep were you fishing and what did you record for water temp?

Sorry for not replying to your question. I was only fishing 10 feet deep. As for the temperature on the surface with my Raymarine A50D it was 43.1 degrees.

Thank you. That tells me the temp is coming up nicely. Another week or two and I'll drag Dad back up for another try. Its more fun when they're popping the rods more than two every six hours. Although the lake is beautiful and much better than working.
