Well, I went a head and bougth me a new electronic system for my boat. Now I have a "HDS 5X" Lorwrance complete with connection lines and transducer for $300. I have only used it about 6 or 7 times with 3 or 4 hours a trip. I works great and has never given me any problem at all. It was put in by Western Marine and I will have them take it out for me, so it has been handled correctly. I have had it covered and in a building since I bought it. Let me know. They had them in the online bargain cave only apparently and I don't see them anymore.
I just lucked out I guess.

This is one of the units I have been looking at, but I haven't seen any for less thah $650. Where did you find them at that price?

Is there any advantage that the Airmar Transducer has over the factory 83/200 Lowrance Transducer?fencing

There are advantages both ways. Be forewarned if you go with just the Airmar you will lose the 83kHz and you will also lose quite a bit of cone angle. That said, I have been told you get better target separation with the Airmar P-66, but I didn't notice that through my application trolling up to 350'.

OneDogShort it sounds like you got the information that you needed. I have depth finders, two gps units and radar on board. (Lowrance and Furuno) Yes it is a bit of overkill but it serves it purpose once in awhile. I have found that I generally end up using depth and gps tracking. There are a good number of units out there. Setup is important as well as becoming proficient in operating it.

I just bought a Humminbird 798 SI. The more I watch videos on You Tube the more I'm glad I sold the dog and house cat (Ha,Ha) to purchase it.
So now, like I said earlier, I have the Lowrance fish electronics for $300. It is just about as close to new as you can get without paying full price.101chromefish101101chromefish101

Pretty good deal on the 5X. Best out there is $499 + tax and shipping then you get a $50 rebate. So Zonker has got a great deal for someone.
