We fished Paulina yesterday (19th) for three hours. Tried everything I had and didn't get a bite. Lots of fish schooled up at 50'-60'. They were scattered around a good portion of the lake. We were catching a lot of fish earlier in the summer but they sure aren't biting now - at least not with my normal stuff.

Might try Wickiup today or tomorrow but I'm not sure how far down the water is.

I was up there last week (8/13) and it was tough fishing...really tough. We managed 8 fish/lost around 6 but had to stay out longer than normal. After trying out a few different tactics and a whole lot of lure changes we finally came up with one they were half way interested in. Were you trolling or jigging?

We didn't have too much luck trolling either. After changing lures at least 20 times and dragging them through school after school without as much as a bump we ended up drift jigging. We did a slow drift over the same schools we trolled through out in the middle only this time around we stayed on top of them. I think between the jigs staying in the middle of the schools longer and the annoyance of them in front of their face they hit out of aggression.

I just got back from 10 days at Paulina. Ended up just camping a Paulina and fishing at East.
I only fished Paulina twice for one fish, on the other hand, East Lake fishing was very good.
Most days we had easy limits in 2-4 hours, the fish were good sized and we had a few rainbows in the 20" class.
The skeeters were out in force at Paulina, while I saw any at East.
All but one fish were caught on a watermelon dodger and matching Apex.

Will be heading back for one last trip after Labor day. Will be camping at Paulina, as they have camp sites that a large enough for my camper, truck and boat which take a lot of space.

Paulina...the day after

I was just up at Paulina yesterday... the morning after Central Oregon got hit with 1,200 lightning strikes in a one hour period (8,000 strikes across Oregon) the night before and quarter size hail just to the west up at Wickiup. Thinking the fishing couldn't be any worse than it was last time up we got a rude awakening...it could be ALOT worse!! We spent most of the time just looking for fish as they seemed to vanish from where they normally hang out. We didn't even bother to stop and jig as there wasn't anything to target on the fishfinder. We did manage to find some fish at the east end of the lake but by then it was almost noon and time to head home. They were 20' deeper than I've ever seen them in 9 years of fishing up there. We managed 7 take-downs... lost 3 and came home with 4. One showed signs of hook jaw and had lost it's scales but the others were still nice and bright. There wern't too many people fishing and the one's we talked didn't have much luck either. It was a nice day for a boat ride.

I left Paulina yesterday morning around day light. The storm wasn't that bad up there, but it sure was loud.
Everyone I talked to was having the same luck(bad) at Paulina. Some of the jiggers said they were finding fish just up the lake from the lodge, but even when they found some, the bite was tough.
Even at East the fish were moving a lot. For a few days they were in there usual haunts, but other days I had to prospect for them.
The last few days they moved out into deeper water and were more scattered.
They were at the same depth though, 30-40'.
Monday, East had a huge butter fly hatch, the trees at the Cinder ramp were covered with 1000's of them.Wednesday morning the lake was covered with dead ones. The fish were feeding heavily and I had a hard time getting anything to bite my rigging.
