It was his idea! Kokanee Kids that is. He asked if I wanted to try jigging for koke’s at Clear Lake a long time ago for the last weekend day before it closed. I said sure. I had tied several jigs up.
Saturday Kokanee kid called and asked if I still wanted to go since it was going to rain and I said yes. When I got there he had the boat ready to go ‘cause I was late. It was windy as well as raining. That was something I didn’t count on. We motored over to where we planned to jig, anchored and jigged. The fish didn’t like the jigs. Or bait. Not a bite. But the wind and rain died down so it wasn’t unpleasant.
Since I had to work at noon we started trolling. I started with a Wannafish A Lure Green Ice and got a few hits but then switched to a pink necklace with a Dick Nite Dodger that got my only fish in the boat. Of course Kokanee Kid got the first and most fish in the boat. I had to let him win since it was his boat. ;-)
I had to leave by 10:30 so we were only on the lake about 3 hours.
The fish was Kokanee Kids first in the boat.

Vibrating metal jig for negative kokanee

There have been days, especially with heavy holiday boat/jet ski traffic, where only a vibrating metal jig would trigger the kokanee to bite. One of the very best kokanee lure manufacturers is Mack's Lure in Wenatchee, WA. They are coming out with the vibrating metal jig called the Sonic BaitFish. This is the jig, my 11 year-old neighbor, and I, used to limit out on kokes when traditional jigs went fishless. See included photo. The Sonic BaitFish can be vertical-jigged (7) different ways. The photo shows 3 of the 7 ways...the "vibrator" (line/snap attached to the balance point on the back) is on the extreme left. Also, a deadly lure for rainbows & cutthroat trout. End.
