so my buddy just bought a cabelas advanced angler underwater camera. He also has a sony handycam dcr-sx41 digital. the guy at cabelas said you can record video from the underwater camera. the instructions are very basic and dont talk about that feature at all. can anyone give us instructions, or tips on how to do this? ive seen the videos on here, so i know its possible. we just dont know how. thanks in advance.

Hey BlueBack - Does the video from the camera have an RCA style plug that plugs into the display unit for example? If so you could by a splitter cable and then route that to a recording device. I use a Sandisk V-Mate which records to an SD card. It takes some getting used to the primitive controls (remote control only) but it does the job.

Here's a link from Amazon as a sample of what I use:

on the underwater camera, there are video in and video out jacks on the back of the display unit. i used the the rca cables for the sony handycam and plugged it in to the video out jack, and then into the sony handycam. if you hit record, it just records what the handycam is viewing, not the underwater camera....thats where we are getting lost. maybe the way youre doing it is easier. just figured there has to be a way with the handycam.

Yep the Video Out jack on the handycam will only put out what is coming from its lens and not the reverse. There are a very few, mostly older camcorders that would let you record from an external source. I don't recall which ones but I wanted to do the same thing but the above water camcorder needs to support a Video In source.
