While I dislike the high fuel prices as much as anyone, I am not going to let it affect my fishing.
Most of my fishing trips are 2 weeks or more in length. The nearest lake that has Kokanee is 200 miles away and most are double that distance.
I save money by fishing in Oregon rather than paying CA's outrageous boat inspection tax.
I have been driving a Tundra, which when loaded to max for fishing trips, gets 9-11MPG. I have just ordered a 2011 F-350 DRW, CB, 4x4, LB with the 6.7 diesel and a 11.5' triple slide camper that will weigh 5K lbs wet. When I drag my jet behind it I expect to get about the same mileage as the Tundra, plus I will have a nice place to stay and will be able to in more inclement weather without having to rough it.
I figure my fuel costs will be just a little more, factoring in the higher cost of diesel over gas.
As far as the question of where the profits Toyota makes go, you have to look at the whole picture. Toyota assembles the Tundra in Texas(mine was made in Indiana before the Texas plant was opened. The tranny, engine and diff are made in the U.S. Tranny and engine made by Toyota and the diff by Dana, with American workers. Fords Diesel is made in Mexico.
If you wish to share in Toyota's profits, outside of benefiting from the money than Toyota's American workers spend here, you can buy Toyota's ADR and share in the profits that Toyota not only makes here, but in the profits Toyota makes world wide.
