Last year at the Pacific Northwest Sportsman's Show while manning the Kokanee Power of Oregon booth, I spoke with many from Washington who were wanting to have a like organization up in Washington. During the course of the year, I put on kokanee seminars as far North as Seattle. During those seminars, I once again heard the same question, "when are we going to have Kokanee Power in Washington?"
Well the ball is in your court now, because there are sponsors ready to step up and help get the ball rolling. The problem is it seems is that there is nobody willing to step up and form the nucleus of the club.
The club here in Oregon is willing to play it forward and assist in helping to set the club up, but there needs to be the general membership that has the interest to step up and make it happen.
I have been corresponding with some individuals up North who are concerned about the decline in the kokanee fisheries in several Northern lakes. This is your opportunity to do something substantial and insure that your kids, grand kids as well as generations yet to come have the same opportunity to pursue this great game fish. I recently wrote an article on my blog as to the concerns at one of those lakes (Sammamish) and the problems that they are encountering with the faltering economy.
Who is willing to step up and be counted? If you are truly interested and willing to put in the effort, lets get the discussion going! fencing

What is it?

I have no idea what Kokanee Power is nor did I see a Kokanee Power booth at the show. Is it something to help koke heads?

Willing to help

Hey Found out about this from Troll N Fisher and Eenakok on my phone. I would be willing to help out!!!! Please let me know where I can help!!! Sorry guys for being out of the loop for awhile. Been busy with work changes.

I am now one of the Senior Managers for the new Cabela's store up in Tulalip. So I will be moving up north in the near future. I just got done helping to add a bunch more Kokanee products to our assortment to Tulalip when it opens this Spring, Lacey as well as Springfield.

I would also like to find out more of this program so I could suggest to our corporate partners to look at maybe helping out on this for both Oregon and Washington. I look forward to hearing more!!!!101chromefish101

Dear Mr. Kingchinook: I have been fishing for kokanee for 2 years. I went to kokaneepower.org and saw what they are about. It is very nice that you have been a member for almost 9 months. It appears you are not to active at kokanee power.
Cannon says "The problem is it seems is that there is nobody willing to step up and form the nucleus of the club." Nucleus to me means the start of the club. When I look at the structure of the club there, they have a board of directors, officers, and then members, of which you are one. If the directors and officers are needed, it would mean a lot more time involvement than that is required for a member.

I am asking Cannon to provide more information before I commit. I don't want to say yes I can when in reality I won't be able to give my time.

Although I’m a temporary resident here in Washington only have 2.5 years left (military). I’ll help on what we need to get the ball moving on this to get it started here in Washington. To be honest I don’t know the time requirements it would involve, as I have a lots of other commitments. But I’m willing to help.

Kokanee Power of Oregon

I have been a member for 2 years and fished at 3 of the Derbies last year. I can say that it is a great organization and I had a blast camping out & have learned a lot about Kokanee Fishing from the people I have met.

I think what is needed in Wa. is people to become board members, help out at the derbies, and very important, members!

I have talked with Rick, Kent and the rest of the board members about Wa, & I will do everything I can to help get a start in Wa. I urge everyone interested in Kokanee fishing to go to the web site... www.kokaneepoweroregon.com Also check out Kent Cannon at: www.kentcannon.com Kent is a great guy and has written a book , "The Kokanee Obession" that has the latest info on our sport!

Cannon, Researched your website and I am interested. I'm with Toni and would like a little more information before I commit. If the interest level is high enough, suggest your organization hold a couple meetings in Washington to explain the details and register members/officers. Perhaps a meeting somewhere in the Puget Sound region and another on the other side of the mountain in Eastern Washington.

This is the simple rundown:
I am already a board member here in Oregon. We have had a lot of interest from people up in Washington about starting their own organization. I am not interested in traveling all over Washington to "Start your Organization" as someone stated above. This is a club and if there is interest then I/we will help you with the logistics and with some of the start up money.
To start the organization "YOU" need a core group of individuals willing to step up and form the board and officers. This is a volunteer organization to solve issues within "YOUR" state. I currently put in quite a bit of time as a volunteer in our organization as do the rest of the board members. The benefits are, that you will enhance your fishery, meaning trophy sized fish, as well as solving issues like the Lake Sammamish problem. I cannot pick the board members, and if I did, it probably wouldn't stick. It takes some individuals that are willing to step up to the plate and put in some time and effort to pull it off.
We have a great time in our organization both as friends and as fishermen in the derbies that we hold each year to make money to finance the projects that we undertake.

If you are interested in pulling this off, some of you guys need to step up and start communicating until you are comfortable with each other and have the basic board or core group. Once you do that, you can decide who would be the prospective officers: 1.) President 2.) Vice President 3.) Secretary 4.) Treasurer. I have a lawyer up there that is on board to help with the legal end of forming the non profit.

I have spoken to a number of tackle makers that are willing to step up and help promote the club as well as provide some of the funds. KPO has also discussed providing some of the funds as well in addition to helping you avoid the pit falls we had to overcome.

It takes some commitment, but the end is well worth the effort. What do you say?

The Springfield Store took Oregon Kokanee Power on with the Wickiup Derby and with the Odell Lake derby. Their help was much appreciated!

We in Oregon have been using the phone conferencing system for our meetings once a month. It is a tole free number and a meeting takes about 1-2 hours when we are working out the details of something important. We also hold a meeting of the board at the derbies to get the face to face thing. We have four derbies a year at this point and as we add members, we will add more to the docket. We have eight chairs on the Board with the eight one being the president who does not vote but runs the meeting. We have a yearly all club meeting which is being worked out as we speak. We started out with a few guys that wanted to hold derbies in Oregon and they ended up starting the club. There are lots of projects across the state that need the help to get them off the ground here in Oregon and I am sure that it is much the same up there. We have fun, party hard and provide a great family atmosphere for the kokaholic. We divide the derbies up between the board members and we all participate to one extent or the other. It is what you make out of it. The average board member puts in a few hours a month except when we are at the derbies where we end up with long days but they are made short by good friends and volunteers.

you didn't look too hard, we were right next to Shasta Tackle and Crystal Basin. Around the corner from the Scotty booth and Dick's Lures.

Thanks for starting this thread Cannon.

As you know Kokonuts and I have talked about this on several occasions over the past four years and are willing to step up with serving on the KPWA board.

Our WA KFF membership numbers continue to grow exponentially and I'm sure we'll get some more people who are capable in helping this effort.
