Welcome Carvingfish,
I just started fishing for kokanee last year, and have done so exclusively in Merwin. It is a fairly easy lake to learn, and both of the public launches are nice, if you get there early. If you time it wrong, they fill up very quickly and you may not be able to get in. I have seen and heard of some people sitting in line waiting for another to leave, not my idea of fun. Once on the water, follow Smokin' Kokes advice, also look for the other fishing boats. Sometimes the schools move around and are harder to find. This weekend we are meeting up at Yale for a BBQ, if you can make it, it is a great way to meet people and get more advice on where to go.

Where is the BBQ and what time. I need to get my brain flushed with do's and don't having never fished there.
Plan on leaving Hillsboro around 5AM sounds like Yale lake is place to go will have to look at boat ramps and decide where to put in.
I have 20' alumaweld Blue top with Eagle head morfing into the flag can't miss me come by and say high.

Sorry to be such a nuisance. can you get charts for the lakes? Seems My lowrance doesn't cover these lakes.
Look forward to meeting you
Bruce

We will be at Yale Park around noon for the BBQ. I plan on getting to the ramp around 6:30, I think Mack Prince and Kokonuts will be there early too. I haven't fished the lake either, so I too will be looking to get some advice. I don't know about the charts, I usually take a look at the quad maps to get some idea, and then I play it pretty cautiously for the first while on the lake. I am in a 17 foot Smoker Craft Salmon, blue and tan, hope to see you out there.

Fish Fest & BBQ at Yale Lake

I finally made it out to Yale lake on Tue the 22nd . I hit the water by 7:00 which was a little later than I had planed.
I went across the Lake from the launch and moved around torwards the "Island" that just sticks up above the water. WATCH YOUR DEPTH when you are in this area the bottom comes up pretty fast. If you want to move up the lake torwards the dam , Stay to the Right Side as you go past the ISLAND.
I caught 3 nice Kokanee in the area when the bite slowed about 10:00. So I went down torwards the east end marking a LOT of Fish in the 30 to 40 ft range BUT nothing hitting anything I put out. I left around 12:00.

Sooo about all I can say is be there Early! tooexcited I used pink maggots and white corn on a pink Squid and Green/white/ pink glow beads.

I hope to see YOU there on SAT. the 26th. The gate opens at 5:00 so try to get there EARLY!!!
