Hey, I had a buddy tell me he heard about some lake in Eastern Washington that have Kokanee acting totally weird, jumping all over, spinning, MUCH, MUCH more than what is normal, and he said he heard they have some kind of "crustation" in their gills and the jumping etc... is them trying to get it out, but eventually it kills them?

Anyone ever heard about something like this?

Thanks!

Cocopod infestation

the lake that is in trouble is Palmer. We were there in early May. These cocopods are present in most lakes. The Kokanee that are infected have stopped feeding, are slimy and undersized. We were told the flesh is edible, but the few we landed were released. We saw many kokes breaching and slipping sideways across the surface, apparently trying to shake off the bugs. We ended up driving to Concunelly Lake for an entire week.

Ya, I rec'd an email back from fish & game, as well as a phone call from a fish bio up there. For what it's worth, I was pleased that each got back to me! It's pretty devastating and the big question how long (year(s) will this affect the lake... :(
