I assume then that I would attach the offshore clip to the downrigger cable. I have a number of the offshore type clips but unsure how to attach them to the cable. It seems that there must be a way to quickly attach/remove the stacked clip assembly if you get a fish on the bottom line.

As above, I love Chamberlain releases but use them only on the bottom of the stack. I use a FishHawk or Scottys about 10' above.

This is the clip in the link below to use attaching to cable which can be purchased from Amazon. Its also good to have spares release assy's on hand. You can make your own release assy's. Sportsmans Warehouse carries small diameter coated cable and small cable crimps that will work fine, others use weed whacker line. Also, the next link is the yellow offshore release, or a different brand you want to use. Pic below is my own made assy.

Thanks, looks like something to do while I wait for the snow to melt!
I'm waiting for the lakes to uncap. We have been in a late deep freeze in northern Utah. Usually there is snow stacked up here in the Salt Lake Valley, storms have been coming leaving their mark in the mountains with snow where its counts and rain in the SLV with very little snow this winter. I have had a break this winter so far from snow removal. Fishing gear clean up and boat maintenance in process. :giggle:

I went back and reread this, the item mentioned here by Juan is FishHawk I think was meant to be a Shuttle Hawk. I also have a pair of Shuttle Hawks in my bag. When I mentioned a FishHawk in a previous post it was a temp/depth indicator.

I purchased a fish hawk from Amazon. I haven’t used it yet as there is about 12” of ice on the lake. Not sure how to use it but as long as it tells me the thermocline and how deep 52 degrees are I will be happy. Talking about the ice, one of our California tourists decided to drive his rented UTV across the lake. Needless to say it is now a piece of the bottom structure and while he did get out, he is being billed for the UTV, being helicoptered to the hospital and a special bill from Hazmat.

Oh, I bought the clips and releases also. Connect them together a few feet apart with heavy fishing line or stainless cable?

These work great

On the topic of releases I bought these a few years ago and love them. You just set the screw to the desired tension and place your line into the release. The release is consistent every time once you have it adjusted to the tension you want. I bought them from Kokanee Kid but they are on amazon

I had never heard of a shuttle hawk but it sounds like a great idea. If you want to stack using it, how does it know where to stop and what happens if you catch the fish on the bottom line? Does it also include a release?

I just use it for the temperature and depth then put it back in the tackle box

Now I am confused! I thought the fish hawk was a temperature/depth measuring device and the shuttle hawk was some kind of device to make stacking of lines on the downrigger easier.

Ya know every Kokanee fisherman has his own method No two the same So just go fishing and see what works best for you. I think cybersnow must be completely confused by now.

Glad to hear the moron is safe, but he's about to learn a hard lesson. Hopefully, he bought insurance from the rental place and had life flight. Likely not.

No clue, I have been told that the average IQ is 100. That means there is this group on the lower side of that number. Our little town here in McCall seems to attract way too many on this side of the bell curve. While this isn’t the place to talk about it and I am trying to stay focused on Kokanee, you would not believe some of the visitors and transplants up here.

Let's stop the confusion, the FishHawk is a temperature/depth indicator I posted a pic in an earlier post. The Shuttle Hawk is used like a stacker, downrigger cable is setup with bottom release and a line stopper setup 10' above bottom release for Shuttle Hawk to stop. Once you set downrigger with first line, the second line is attached to the shuttle hawk by way of a release then attaching shuttle to dr cable. It will dive as you release line from your 2nd rod to the line stop on the cable. When release on shuttle is triggered, the shuttle then resurfaces on its own ready to be reset again. As Bones posted his pic of a red release is the same one in the pic I'm providing with the shuttle hawk and a line stopper all provided in the purchase of at Shuttle Hawk. At the time of my purchase, it was designed & sold by Shasta Tackle Co but have sold to another vendor since.

I've loved fishing your lake now for 50 years, the last half dozen for Kokanee. It's fun to follow them around the lake from the East side to the West, up the inflow and over by the Scout Camp. It takes a bit to get them figured out, but I actually am able to do that faster than over at Anderson. Green, Charteuse, Orange and pink combos seem to get me the best results......that is, until they don't. Go Kokes!
