a friend of mine wanted some 8 lb stick weights like mine with the pointed ends but wanted them in 1 1/2'' diameter so they will fit in his rocket launchers so I told him that would take lead. so I had some 1 1/2'' SS tube and shafting

and calculated how long the tube would be for 8 lbs and ended up being 12'' plus the ends I turned in the lathe

then tig welded them up

but I don't melt lead and needed a Calderen so I got some
metal togather
bent a pour spout in the press and welded every thing up

droped in one of his 10 lb cannon balls

fired up the rose bud and less than 2 min. I had molten lead

then set up the weights
in to the holder and poured the lead

didn't take long then cooled polished , installed the eyes and the bottom allen bolt and sealed the lead in

they came out 8 bs 4 oz. with the eye dfly

dragonfly, are all your wts lead filled or do you make solid SS ones? If you're doing solid 1" or 1.5' solid what lengths do you end up with? I will second you do some really nice work. TM

thanx guys, these are the first lead ones, I usually make solid SS and are 1-15/16'' SS shafting, 8 lbs 11'' 10 lbs 13'' and 12 lbs 15'' these were made for a guy that wanted them to fit in his rocket launchers. dfty

there many advantages. they show a very small profile on the sonar, less blow back, they pull through most every thing and are very hard to hang up especially when intensionally dragging for Mack's or trolling stumpy and woody lakes like Detroit, wickiup, and greenpeter where the lake bottom changes quickly and you all of a sudden are dragging bottom they are not a big round wedge that hangs up, they will pull through like a bullet. in all the years I have used them I have never had to leave one in a lake. dfly

fishslayer, with the price of lead, ss,and labor they would be too expensive to sell. I just like making and improving my owne stuff and showing others how to do it. besides i am not sure if you have to be a sponser on here to sell and don't want to step on any ones toes by doing so. dfly
