? on passes

How does one know if one needs a pass? I thought the information was in case...we are going to meet on the military side to pick up the vets?

kokanee-Toni,
Yes, we are meeting on the military side. We should have the picnic shelter reserved, and the Wounded Vets all live on post. With a pass we can launch on post, and have lunch-same and drop off the Wounded Vets on post. This is for thier convenience. Should work well for us also. Don't some of the other launch ramps open later? We are expecting the Vets at the ramp at 8:00 A.M. Lunch will be hot dogs, potato salad, and non-alcoholic drinks around noon. We need to get there early enough to have the boat in the water by 8:00A.M.
TrollNFisher is getting the passes ready for those that gave him the info. Maps should be available at the gate or visiter center. Just need to show up with gear, license for car, boat, and fish. Also need to have all saftey gear, and proof of insurance for car and boat.
Chris

If you don't need a pass, please let TrollNFisher know so I won't worry.
Thanks, Chris

Chris,
I'll be launching over at the free Tillicum launch. Will I still need a pass? But from there where do I need to go? To Russell landing to meet everyone?

Also, on a side note. I recieved a "care package" from a good friend of mine, Casey Kelly president of Pautzke Bait Co. I mentioned to him that the company I worked for was also getting involved, and he was all in!!! So I need to get this to you before hand, or if you want I can hold it until lunchtime and you can spread the wealth then.

Looking forward to a great day on the water!
Winterun

Winterun,
As I have never fished American Lake, I will have to defer the answer to that question to TrollNFisher. All I know of the lake and JBLM is what I can find on Google and from others posts. I will search for the answer. As to the goodie bag from Pautzke, Kokanuts and I will be arriving on friday afternoon and staying in a cabin at the Army Travel Camp. There is a boat dock in front of the cabins and we wil be on the lake, time permiting.
I'll send you a PM.

Winterun- Just make sure you have your Discover Pass or WDFW window display up at the free launch. I am assuming you are referring to a pass that enables you to moor onto base?

Edit: Coffee kicking in now, brain @75%... Disregard my post101smilie101

The site with the pavillion is Russels Landing. It is on post. If you are going to land your boat on base, you need a pass. TrollNFisher needs your info now.Or you will have to apply for one at the visitors center when you arrive. I don't know how long that takes.
Chris

Thanks Chris's,

I got my info to TrollNfisher! Just wanted to make sure of the details on where the festivities were going to be held.

Winterun

The individuals that are pre cleared and I will mail you a pass are, eenakok, lowe1648, kokonuts, Winterun, kokanee-Toni, HookSetter. Please pm me with your address. I have ennakok, and kokonuts.

For those that didn’t get their info in. I had to have it in two weeks prior to get pre cleared and get mailed a pass, this is what we now have to do. I will send a memorandum to the visitor’s center gate access exit 120 with your information to them. This will speed the effort if you are pre cleared there. The difference between the two if I had the info early enough I could mail you a pass and you’d be good. So if you didn’t get it in you’ll be pre screened on the morning of the 28th you will have to process through the visitor’s center about 15 minutes to get a pass you will need veh registration, insurance and all documents. Don’t worry if needed I will be there to help out the morning of the event if needed. If you are coming across the water to the event I would advise to still get a pass.

wounded warrior program more information please

Hey Chris -
I live in central Oregon and decided to poke around a bit to see what Kokanee fishing opportunities might be available to me in WA (I grew up on Whidbey Island; my dad was in the Navy). In any event I am a member of an organization call SAL (Son’s of the American legion) and am a big supporter of our vets. If I had known about this event earlier I would have made the trip up to Tacoma (I still have family in Burien and in Puyallup) in support of your efforts. That being said I have two questions for you.
Q1. Should you decide to repeat this event let me know or “advertise”, if possible, throughout the site.
Q2. The individual you reference, Mr. Dan Gabriel, does he just run this program for Washington State? I ask because I’d consider following in your footsteps and trying to accomplish the same thing here in OR.
Thanks,
Matt

Dr. Matt,
Dan Gabriel Is associated with VFW Post 318 in Olympia. He is thier program coordinater for the Wounded Veterans Fishing Program. If you want, I can message his phone and E-mail address to you. He presently lives on his boat in Portland.
He may have similar contacts in Oregon.
As far as repeating this event, it is up to those that volunteer if they want to do it again.
The Viet Nam Veterans of America, Chapter 165 in Bellingham have expressed an interest. Also an east sider has requested an event in his side of the state. He is with KFF.
Thanks for your interest. Chris

Cooking Koks for Wounded VetsFishing Day

As previously stated, There will be hotdogs, potato salad, and drinks. If (ha,ha) we catch Koks, you may want to cook them up for the Wounded vets. If you would like to bring your favorite seasonings, we should end up with quite a lot of variety. The vets also have thier own kitchens at thier quarters. If they don't want to cook them up at that time, they can take them back to thier housing. I will bring zip-lock bags.
This brings up grills. I am going to bring my propane grill, If you want to bring a grill, It may help. I hear there are a couple of charcole grills, but that sometimes there is a line to use them.
I also hear there is no cleaning station. We will have to make/do.

Wounded Veterans Fishing Day

Mr. Dan Gabriel have just messaged me that we are using the Summer Cove Picnic Area. It is just north of the Russell's Landing Bistro. Not sure where we can pull up the boats, looks like a swimming area. There is a dock at the landing but I'll try to find out where to put the boats. If you have acess you can check out the area on Google Maps sat. view.

Do you need chips for the barbque?

Kokanee-Toni

Hello,
Chips were not on my list. If you would like to pick some up -Thank You.
I have already picked up Pepsi,Diet Pepsi,Siera Mist, and bottled water. I've already got dinnerware, paper plates, and napkins.
Tomarrow morning I'll pick up Potato Salad, Hot Dogs, and Hot dog Buns.
I won't forget the condiments.
If you want to do more, You could chop some onions for the Dogs.
If I've left anything out, let me know. I already have the garbage bags, and aluminum foil for the fish. Lets hope we catch some for lunch.
As I don't know everyones favorite spices for Koks, you will have to bring your own. Should be educational for most of us.
Chris
