2013-2016 Idaho Kokanee Fishing Reports Quick Links

Made my first trip to Dworshak for the season and had a great day on the water. We fished both Canyon Creek and Dicks Creek pulling 2 long lines and 2 on the down riggers. Caught fish anywhere from 5 to 45 feet but most where caught between 15-25 feet. Ended up bring 42 kokanee home with us and...

Dworshak fishery and the Nutrient enhancement project

Hi and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the info and all the work you guys have been doing at Dworshak. I've fished the lake for many years now and this year has had both great fishing and the size to the fish are definitely increasing. I have also noticed that the water clarity is improving. In...

What Rods Are We Using For Koknee?

I am running Lamiglass FC76UL and love it. The rods are extremely limber but are built very well and can handle most any kokanee you can throw at it.

    how's dworshak?

I fished Dworshak yesterday with a buddy and we put 50 fish in the boat. The fish are averaging 10.5"-13" this year and are nice and fat. We started out in Canyon Creek and the fishing was slow so we moved to the 1st large bay on your left past Freeman Creek it has a floating swim dock in it. We...

    Boat Batteries

I have 2 batteries in my boat, 1 for the trolling motor and 1 for the engine starting and accessories. I need to replace the starting battery and am not sure whether I should get a deep cycle or standard battery to replace it with? Any recommendations on a specific brand of battery I shoud...

    Which ipilot should I buy?

Most people I've talked to about bow mounted trolling motors wished they had gotten the next size larger, including myself. Wind & current have a huge effect on the performance of your motor.

    trolling weights

My advice would be save your pennys and get a couple manual crank downriggers they are fairly affordable. A couple years ago I finally got a couple Cannon downriggers and wouldn't go back to the guessing game. Money well spent!!

    How Many Rods You Fishin?

I always fish with 2 rods myself and up to a max of 5 rods with multiple people in the boat. Some are fished on downriggers and some flatline. Quick turns are out of the question and autopilot sure is a nice addition to your trolling motor.

Congrats, I hope you are heading to the taxidermist. You'll have your work cut out for you trying to catch a larger one.

    Reel recomendation wanted

Another good reel to consider is the Shimano Tekota 300 which is the smallest of the Tekota line. I have a line counter on mine but you can get them without. They run around $180.

    Lowrance Elite 5 DSI

Thanks for all your advice. I will be heading up to Spokane very soon so that I can actually look at a few units hands on and make my final decision. I am pretty sure i will be buying the HDS 5 unit.

    Lowrance Elite 5 DSI

Ken, I'm definetly leaning towards the HDS 5 unit now. I would like to get the unit with GPS on it also. I've been at Lowarance's website and all the pictures of this unit show a split screen half gps/half sonar. Can you view either the GPS or sonar independently. With the split screen it makes...

    Lowrance Elite 5 DSI

Ken - Thanks for the reply. I mainly fish for kokanee and sturgeon. I'm looking for a graph that will pick up both the thermocline (activity level) and very accurately read the bottom structure while I'm sturgeon fishing. I rarely fish below a depth of 100' but sometimes I may be sitting in...
